Soldier thanks local residents for support in Iraq

Published on Sunday, November 15, 2009 8:39 AM MST

Hi; my name is Nicasio Garcia. I’m originally from Safford. I’ve been out here in Iraq since January 2009, and I‘m getting ready to come home in a couple of months.

While I’ve been out here, I’ve had many different experiences good and bad. One of my toughest challenges that I’ve had to face out here is being away from my family!

I have a wonderful family, two younger brothers, Rico and Diego Garcia; an older sister, Theresa Gonzalez; and two wonderful parents, Frederico and Millynda Garcia. Words cannot express how I feel for each one of you, but I would like to thank you for your never-ending love and support! You have always supported me and have continued to send packages to me and my squad throughout our deployment! You have made times a little easier out here, and I would like to say, "Thank you!" I would also like to thank the rest of my family who sent care packages or just an e-mail to keep in touch!

Last, I want to thank Jeff of Jobi’s Market and Jaime Antillon of the Desert Springs Church for their support! God Bless you all, and happy holidays!

Thanks,

Nicasio Garcia

" Nicasio is a great example of the next generation. He has committed to serving his country and does so with pride and integrity. As with other parents of service men and women, my sister and brother in law have also served by supporting their children in the choice of joining the US military. I know that veterans of past conflicts are proud of them also. Thanks for the letter Sony, take care and God bless you. "
