Two thumbs up for the sheriff

Editor:

Has anyone noticed what a great job our new sheriff is doing? I see him around our county in many places at a variety of events, networking with the community. He is very genuine, down to earth, hardworking and, according to a deputy I spoke with recently, "He's the best sheriff our county has had in a long, long time!" Its a nice change and, folks, we made the right choice giving PJ the opportunity to serve our county.

This is one politician I feel genuinely cares about Graham County. I believe he will continue bringing positive changes that will affect us now and for generations to come.

Thank you, Sheriff!

" I just spent some time at the website grahamcountysar.org It appears that while SAR is under direction of the Sheriffs Office, it is not PART of the Sheriffs Department.
SAR is a volunteer nonprofit organized under the umbrella of the SO. Anyone can apply but it appears being a deputy does not make one a part of SAR, and obviously, vice versa.

    Any details courier? "

" yea, lets NOT confuse ourselves! NO, they are not 2 seperate entities. Search and Rescue is under direct order of the sheriff and his assigned deputies.

Dont try correcting someone if YOU dont even know!!!!!!!!!!! "

" I too would like to see some accomplishments, changes documented.
Also, I'm not minimising the need or efforts of Search and Rescue, but isnt that a seperate entity from the Sheriffs department? Lets not confuse the two.

What has changed that department moral is up? What was restricting officers from doing their jobs as trained before, and how was that stopped? How is it the same number of deputies suddenly more visible than they were last year?

Questions for the Sherifs Department, and possibly the BoS too! "

" There has to be a better way to find out how competent the administration part of the Sherrifs Department is without asking the sherriff himself to rate his performance, or asking his subordinates, and assuming they would feel comfortable airing any complaints. Who in their right mind would risk their job badmouthing their boss in these times?
There is a difference between being a nice person and being a good boss/leader. We voters deserve to know who is both, in all areas of our county and city government.
    Go Courier! "

" PJ is making great efforts to improve and support Search and Rescue. He appreciates SAR volunteers. While parking with the squad at the Cowboy Poet event - PJ came over and thanked me. For the sheriff to take the time to tell a volunteer thank you meant alot to me.
I had the pleasure of briefly knowing his late brother Darrell. What a great guy! I suspect these brothers were raised well with self respect and a good moral code. Its not often a politician has any one of these qualities, let alone all of them! "

    Thank you, Heres s Few!

It looks like he is indeed on track in becoming a great Sheriff and leading by example. "

" All agencies are working together. Officers are allowed to do their jobs as they were trained. Moral is way up. Deputies are more visable through out the entire county. The Sheriff is out and about late hours at night helping to ensure the safety of our citizens. I know PJ has ran down and arrest crimminals on several diffrent occations and these were long runs in the desert through some pretty tough terrain. This sheriff is approachable and will reach out to all groups. He is fair and he will do what is right. There's no pleasing some ofyou. "

" I would also like to know exactly what makes him a great Sheriff.

I am not saying that he is not, but it would be nice to be able to make an informed decision in the next election.

We should not have to go to the Sheriff's office to find out. Maybe the Courier could do an article covering any changes that he has brought to the office and how they have positively affected the County? "

" If you want to know what he has done; go into the Sheriff's Department and ask him. Many things happen in law enforcement that the public seldom finds out about. Instead of wondering about hearsay you would know exactly all of the things he has done to make positive improvements throughout the county. "

I don't have anything against the guy, but what has he done to improve law enforcement in the county? "
