Actions against LDS temple reminiscent of religious persecution

Published on Wednesday, October 14, 2009 9:16 AM MST

Editor:

I heard today that someone was taking potshots at the angel on top of the temple being built in Central for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons).

I find that reminiscent of the burning of churches attended primarily by African Americans in the Southeast when I was a child. It also brings back memories of other blatant acts of vandalism, racism and religious persecution suffered by many different groups in the history of these United States.

Whether you believe that the God you worship is the same or different from another person's, do you really think that breaking the law is OK? The distinction between right or wrong should never be muddied by personal beliefs.

Our Constitution grants all citizens equality regardless of race, color, religion, sex or national origin. It saddens me that so many of us forget those rights.

Sincerely,

Becky Clark

Is beautiful a wrong thing to be nowadays? There might be some bad apples in the bunch, but I'm 100 percent sure that we would find bad apples in any other religious group we would come in contact with. Where is the "peace on earth, good will to men" that will be represented (supposedly) in the coming holidays. Let's implement it all year. "
