Obama should be lobbying for troops not the Olympics

Editor:

See where our "Commander in Chief" hasn't personally talked to the generals commanding the Iraq and Afghanistan war in almost three months. Seems rather odd behavior for the "General of Generals" to be ignoring his troops in harm's way.

On the flip side, he's firing-up Air Force One again and jetting off to Denmark to pitch Chicago - his adopted hometown - as the best site for the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics. This is the first time a U.S. president has actively lobbied the International Olympic Committee in hopes of landing the gig. Maybe he can take along a Chicago ACORN delegation as advisers. Understand Oprah Winfrey is going to be there, too. It'll be like homecoming.

In the meantime, guess a Marine in a combat zone isn't worth nearly as much attention as a hot dog vendor in a Chicago-style Olympic venue.

" Roll da bones: You are right. Anyone can look up the numbers. So why didn't you do that before you stated;"Oh ya, he has increased troops in Iraq". And "Where is the withdraw?". And Obama has stated that the level will be 50,000 until the end of 2011, not 100,000. The 18 month timetable for withdrawal is only 2 months longer than he promised during campaign. I would like to see a faster withdrawal with no soldiers left. But get your facts correct before you accuse anyone of drinking Cool-Aid. "

There were 170K troops in Iraq when he came into office and now he is saying he will SLOWLY withdraw troops until the number is 100K. He said there would be 100K troops there for an undetermined amount of time. Thats not even half! This doesn't sound like the person before he became president. Does it to you? If so you are just a typical spoon fed Democrat....... "

" I stand by my figures which was in reply to the statement that Obama has increased the troop levels in Iraq. The US is speeding up its withdrawal from Iraq, bringing an extra 4,000 troops home before the end of October. General Raymond Odierno said troop levels are on pace to fall to 115,000 by the end of the year, and roughly 50,000 by mid-2010. I mentioned Obama doubling the troop level in Afghanistan at beginning of the year. So these soldiers do get to come home, barring any new increase in Afghanistan troop levels. "

So Obama has brought home 22,000 troops so far. It is very important to be informed before you make decisions. "

It was part of the agreement with the Iraq government. Now Obama did double up on the Afghanistan troop level. But you are wrong on the Iraq count. As for the Olympics. They chose a country that has never hosted the Olympics before. Don't begrudge a President for trying to bring jobs to America. "

Obama is doing a great job despite the circumstances that he was handed. The Bush administration is the REAL joke! "

" General McChrystal requested more troops from the president over six weeks ago and still no answer from the commander in chief. Obama says he needs more time to think about. Well, now that he doesn't have to worry about pandering to the Olympic Committee, maybe he can devote a little more time to listening to his generals. I'm sure the Marines and soldiers in the field would sure appreciate it. "

" A lot of you armchair quarterbacks need to take the blinders off. If Obama had managed to get the Olympics brought to Chicago it would have meant jobs for many Americans. It would have helped our economy. Obama took a mere 18 hours to fly over there and back. You people want to tear down his Presidency so bad that you're against good things for our country. Pretty pathetic. If you could only realize that you're tearing down our country too. "

" Looks like EA Poe is a little behind the times. Obama hadn't talked to Gen. McChrystal in about three months and probably still wouldn't have except his deliquency in communicating with the very general he appointed was made public. So it does appear he was more concerned with a Chicago Olympic event than discussing strategy with his generals. "

I agree with MR. Bibb. I dont believe that the Banker and Chief cares much for the US military after all, he was never man enough to serve his adopted country. I hope all the leftys are happy with what theyve done. "

" You have got to be joking right? Have you ever heard the name Gen. McChrystal? Did you not hear about the meeting aboard Air Force One in Copenhagen on Friday morning? Quit your fear mongering and read a news article. By the way, I am glad to have a president that stood up and actually tried to get the Olympics for the USA. I seriously doubt that he only did it because Chicago is his hometown, I believe he would have done it for any US city. "

" Mike, I commend you for writing about what you know.... And apparently what you know happens to be whatever topic Rush Limbaugh has been trumpeting on his radio program. I just heard Rush telling his listening audience that they will be healthier if they Don't get the H1N1 (swine flu) shots. Why don't you write a letter to the editor all about it. I look forward to reading your thoughtful and thought provoking letter next week. "
